I think it’s only suitable that our most epic year yet be summarized in a most epic of all blog posts. If you scroll through this post you might soon realize that it was hard for us to pick our faves from this year, after all Cole & I took over 100,000 images in 2013! It was also hard to choose our favourites because we worked with some amazing couples and we honestly still feel privileged to have been chosen to be a part of their day. We photographed couples that flew in from all over the world: Indonesia, London, Korea, USA and the far north of Canada. The very young (19!) and also the second chances. We saw love unfold in first looks & altar gasps, Chinese tea ceremonies, Korean commemorations,  and Jewish wedding traditions. There were Kilts, Mounties in Royal Red Serge, Converse shoes, Mom’s dresses handed down and of course – a plethora of suspenders! There were more than a few tears shed this summer (Cole and I cried at 95% of the weddings alone!) We could go on and on about the DIY or beautiful locations (Whistler, backyard beauties, barns, Gabriola Island, Fraser Valley treasures, Banff…) but the thing that still takes our breath away are the stolen moments. Father’s seeing their daughters for the first time. Newly wedded couples lingering on the lawn. Not even the rainiest downpour of the year dampening the brides smile as she marries her best friend. The words, “Nothing matters except that I am here with you,” when the couples’ entire venue and plans burnt to the ground two days prior from a random strike of lightning (truer words never spoken).

Representing love is a tall order, but as you can see from these pics, it’s all around – all you have to do is look.

There was so much about Alexa & Chris’ wedding that we loved. All the loving hand touches, the DIY, vintage accents, the beautiful backyard setting in Mission, the way they & their family and friends were all in. There was so much support for the couple, and so much determination of ‘this was meant to be.’ When you know that you know, there is no stopping love. Alexa & Chris – we hope you carry on this determination into every area of your life. When you know that you know, chase after it. We see many successes for your futures.

Two years ago we had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Leanne’s cousin Leah and we had remembered this tiny happy firecracker of a bridesmaid. We were so excited when that bridesmaid became a bride and asked us to photograph her wedding, at the same hall and neighbors yard out in Bradner.

We often joke about advertising as ‘good weather photographers’ seeing as we haven’t shot a wedding in the rain in almost three years. Nothing to do with us, mind you – we do plenty of shoots in the rain but somehow we have had the good blessing of beautiful weather for most every wedding. That all came to an end on Sept 28th with torrential downpour and cyclone like winds. Guests donned umbrellas & boots and huddled together under the cookout at Zajac Ranch because come what may, Carley and Dan were getting married! We had an awesome barn to work with and a fabulous couple who braved the weather and ran outside during the eye of the storm so we could photograph at the camps tee-pees. Carley and Dan didn’t just put on a happy smile, but claimed the day as theirs and genuinely enjoyed every minute. We were so lucky to be a part of their day and we would have stood in the rain over and over again just to photograph this lovely couple. Congratulations Carley and Dan.
